#NAREE2024 kicks off in Austin in 20 days

A Note from NAREE’s Executive Director

#NAREE2024 kicks off in Austin in 20 days

NAREE’s 58th major yearly conference will track innovation in both the real estate industry and the news media covering it.

Set for June 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency in Austin, NAREE’s "Mapping Innovation” annual conference is a must attend event.

NAREE headquarters, The Hyatt Regency, is a riverfront hotel juxtaposing idyllic tree-covered bike and hike paths against Austin's alluring skyline views. Drink it all in at NAREE events on the first floor terrace, at the Southwest Bistro on the second floor and inside Foothills II on floor 17. Or immerse yourself in it walking the paths, paddle boarding or on NAREE’s Wednesday night riverboat cruise.

Workshops, fireside chats, news-packed panels and trend tours guarantee a step into the future of everything real estate and real estate journalism. #NAREE2024 is a unique hybrid of both professional development and real estate industry news and insights. This Tuesday-to-Friday-morning confab is geared for journalists covering either residential or commercial real estate, or both on any bonafide news platform.

Leading industry innovators on this year’s agenda:

Mauricio Umansky, Founder of The Agency and star of the Buying Beverly Hills show on Netflix

Graeme Waitzkin, COO of ICON, the Austin-based builder of 3D-Printed homes, named to Time’s List of Best Inventions

Richard Barkham, Global Chief Economist of CBRE, one of the largest real estate firms in the world

John E. Bell, Head of the Mortgage Guaranty Program at the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Theodora “Teddy” Leatherman, Multifamily Expert and Managing Director of JLL Capital Markets

NAREE’s Renowned Economic Forecast Panel is a NAREE tradition that equips journalists with tools to cover real estate news in the year ahead. This year’s panel includes: Dr. Lawrence Yun, National Association of Realtors; Dr. Selma Hepp, chief economist of CoreLogic; Odeta Kushi, Deputy Chief Economist, First American Financial Corp and Jim Costello, CRE, Chief Economist, MSCI - Real Assets. Steve Brown, Freelance Writer and Former Real Estate Estate Editor, Dallas Morning News will moderate.

NAREE University’s peer-to-peer workshops look into the future of real estate news coverage

Headed by NAREE University Dean Rebecca San Juan, Miami Herald award-winning reporter and NAREE board member, NAREE University breakfast and luncheon sessions are designed to equip attendees with insider information and fundamental tips on some of the trendiest topics this year, including investigative reporting, data journalism, covering luxe with a twist and book publishing. Leading journalists from The New York Times, Miami Herald, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Austin American-Statesman, Texas Tribune, Bisnow, Business Insider and others are ready to dive into interactive discussions. NAREE’s Own Speed Networking
Journalists are also invited to be panelists on NAREE’s Meet the Press which runs on Awards Day, Thursday, June 20 at 3:00 PM. Now in its 27th year, MTP is NAREE’s one-on-one speed networking session where journalist panelists meet those who want to pitch them in a series of 3-minute appointments for 90 minutes. NAREE past president Sue Doerfler has invited registered journalists.  Industry conferees can only sign up for MTP in person in Austin beginning Tuesday, June 18 near the conference main registration desk.

Awards

NAREE’s prestigious Journalism Awards Presentation begins with a winner-only Red Carpet Reception at 6:15 PM on Thursday, June 20 at the Hyatt. Awards will be presented at 7:30 PM in the Texas Ballrooms. A press release on the awards will be posted on naree.org after 9 PM Central Time on June 20. Connect at the Conference and Experience Austin

Tuesday's Opening Reception - 5:00 PM at the Southwest Bistro 2nd Floor, is followed by an off-site tour of a robot-built house only a few miles from the Hyatt in East Austin. The home also has a 3D-printed ADU (adjacent dwelling unit).
