NAREE members hear opening remarks from NAREE DC09 Conference Chair/Board Chair Ken Harney, Washington Post Writers Group in the House Financial Services Committee room in the Rayburn Building on Capitol Hill. More than 130 people registered for the four-day NAREE meeting "Dateline Washington: Real Estate in the New Administration" held June 18-21 at the Hilton Washington Embassy Row. More than two dozen sessions with more than 50 speakers and 30 media panelists included topics that ranged from a "MultiMedia Workshop for Journalists," NAREE's Bruss Book Awards Lunch and Journalism Competition Awards Reception to sessions with House Financial Service Committee Leader Congressman Barney Frank, to a Keynote Speech from HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and remarks from FHFA Director James Lockhart. Celebrating 80 years of service, NAREE helps members advance their careers as editors, writers, columnists, and freelancers through targeted annual programs such as our journalism competition with $9,000 in awards (Next deadline 2/20/2010), the Bruss Book Awards with $2,000 (New deadline 4/25/09, extended to 5/5/09), a $5,000 mid career fellowship (Deadline 9/15/2009), and conferences with world class speakers from the White House and top tier investment houses to designers of the latest "green" houses. Publications include the association newsletter, "The NAREE News," the membership directory with industry sources, "The NAREE Network" and NAREE's Conference Program Book.
Active members cover residential, commercial, and financial real estate as well as home and urban design trends and efficient "green" building for both general circulation and trade news outlets -- in print, on line, and on air. Associate membership is available to part-time writers and professionals who disseminate industry information to the media.
